About

Mining engineering is a division of engineering which studies the techniques for extracting minerals from natural environment that involves the energy sources, non-metallic and metallic ores and solid fuels. The mining technique involves blasting, production, processing, drilling, marketing, extraction and development. Apart from these techniques the main task of mining engineers is to check that the project on which they are working is environmentally safe and not destroying the natural environment. Mining engineers must have the knowledge about the underground and opencast coal or ore mining. This field of work has a lot of job prospects as India is the land of natural resources.

Mines & Minerals Development Corporation and Mining Department of Union and State Government are constantly in need of experienced mining engineers. The width of subjects covered in the mining curriculum provides additional opportunities in allied fields.

Individual can also work as consulting engineer, rock engineering, mining manager and mine designer. Mining engineers can also choose to work with geologists in order to explore and assess new ore deposits or conduct research to create new and effective mining procedures and techniques. The remuneration of a professional mainly depends on the factors such as the company, job profile, qualification, skills and work experience. Students holding a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering can expect income around Rs. 20, 000 to Rs. 25,000 every month in the beginning stage. A person with higher qualification degree or 2-3 years of experience can expect higher salary. Graduate trainees from reputed colleges get higher salary as compared to other engineering colleges.
